Welcome! I’m Taylor, and I love exploring the idea of childlikeness.
It all began in that all-too-common, uncomfortable place: stuck in the lull of a passionless 9-5, discouraged by stubborn creative block, and numb with distraction. Through the writings of Julia Cameron, Madeleine L’Engle, C.S. Lewis, and Rick Rubin, I became fascinated by the realm of childlikeness: wonder, play, imagination, possibility. I remembered my favorite ways to create, and I did those things again. I remembered my favorite childhood foods, and I treated myself to them again. I remembered the version of me that used to dream and play, and I gave her room to breathe again. Slowly, (clumsily), (warily), I’ve watched myself become more present and free in my friendships, work, and daily life.
This led me into conversations with family and friends about the idea of childlikeness, which I began to record. I noticed certain themes would rise to the surface—universal experiences worth remembering and exploring—so I started to write about them.
The result is this weekly newsletter.
Here at Cereal Digest, we use storytelling and imagination as tools for presence and growth. Here, we put away “the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up” (C.S. Lewis). Here, we remember the child in all of us.
Each month, we’ll focus on a different childhood theme sparked by a particular conversation, and each week we’ll expand on that theme in the newsletter.
I believe a life of childlike wonder and creativity is for everyone. I hope you’ll join me.
